On the first hills of Lastra a Signa, called Calcinaia, you find Edy Pił. historycal researches say that hear about in the 1000 year there was a monaster stood, in that place today there is a resturant, were knights and leaders of mercenaries stayed to take refreshment after the long battles against Pisa-
One of these was the famous "Castruccio Castracane". On the monaster ruins, as early as themiddle of the sixtheenth century, this beautiful counting house was RE-Built today you can see in the restaurant the beautiful lacunar ceiling, the stone jambs of the door and a tabernacle niche.


This is a charming zone where yuo can find olives, wines trees, that produce the florentine "Chianti" (typical tuscan wine) Near the restourant, moving to wards Pistoia, we find montalbano colle the place where is produced the Montalbano chianti wine and the red wine Carmignano, that take its name of homonimous city and it includes a lot of comunes besides the ancient village of Artimino.


Near Lastra a Signa moving to wards Siena starts the famous road of "Chianti Classico" that winds along sweet valleys and cross medieval villages, romane parish and numerous big and little farms that produce extra virgin olive oil and the most famous tuscan red wine : The "Chianti Classico".
This zone includes communes of Greve, Panzano, Barberino, Val D'Elsa, Castellina, Gaiole, Radda and Castelnuovo Berardenga. On this hills there are a lot of completely restructered castles and today they are used as hotels or restourants.


Besides you can find witness of the etruscan presence in the "Chianti" land.
On the hills around florence in all chianti who look for quiet palace and want to be in touch with nature can stay in a lot of farms from which can easy arrive at the centre of Florence .
Lastra a Signa was a medieval castle : of this century (14th) are "Le Porte" "Porta Pisana" and "portone of Baccio", the Saint Antonio's Hospital (the oldest building of the town), and its Loggia was completed by Brunelleschi witness the antiquity of this town.

From a historical-artistic point of view the most important building are situated on the inside of the walls :
Misericordia church built before the 1400, the Praetorian Palace and the shrine of the "Podestą" which was frescoed by "Fra Bartolomeo".
In the surroding country side there are valuable parish churchs of the 10th century, between these is famous the romanesque Saint Martino's Gangalandi church, dated back to the VIII and IX sec, under the carolingian power.

The sixtheenth century "Villa Bellosguardo" is a very interesting building - it belonged to great luric tenor Enrico Caruso. Today it has been propety of comune of Lastra a Signa, the villa will be the premises of a training accademy for new talents of the national and international opera with sisterhoods with other italian and foreing schools of music.
